Yale University is subject to U.S. economic and trade sanctions administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). These sanctions may restrict or prohibit Yale related travel and any associated financial or commercial transactions, regardless of funding source.
OFAC currently maintains comprehensive sanctions programs that generally prohibit most transactions involving travel to, from, or within the following countries and regions, unless authorized by OFAC:
- Cuba
- Iran
- North Korea
- Syria
- Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine
Travel involving these locations may require prior review and authorization, including an OFAC general or specific license. In many cases, Yale funds, payment methods, and Yale contracted travel suppliers may not be used.
Sanctions programs change frequently. Travelers must confirm current restrictions and obtain required approvals before planning or booking travel. Travelers are responsible for consulting Yale’s Export Controls, Risk Management, and Office of the General Counsel guidance and for reviewing current OFAC sanctions information before making any travel arrangements.
