Tom Madera

Tom Madera is the assistant director of security, overseeing scheduling, training, communications, recruitment, and accreditation.

Madera Joined Yale University Public Safety in 2019 after spending 28 years in law enforcement, retiring from the Eastern Connecticut State University Police Department at the rank of lieutenant where he was responsible for operations and was the patrol commander.

In 2008, Madera graduated from the 234th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Albertus Magnus College in 2010 and a Master of Science in administration of justice and security from the University of Phoenix in 2014.

Madera is a certified International Police Mountain Bike Association instructor, a certified instructor trainer, and a certified instructor for the Connecticut Police Officers Standards and Training Council.

He is currently the co-director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics CT, the 1st vice president for the Connecticut Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, and an associate faculty professor for POST University in the Criminal Justice Department.
