Congratulations, and Welcome to Yale University

Image of Chief Campbell. As a Yale alumnus, I’m confident you will find your time at Yale inspiring, fulfilling, challenging, and transformative. My experiences at Yale as an undergraduate, graduate, and now as the Chief of Police, have shown me that the lessons you learn here will empower you to change the world around you.

Yale University Police Department is our nation’s oldest campus police agency. We practice a student-centered approach, understanding that effective public safety is achieved when we partner with you and our entire community. Yale Public Safety is here to ensure you have a safe living, learning, and working environment at Yale.

During student orientation, I will talk with you and your parents about the role of the Yale Police Department, how we communicate with the Yale community, the ways in which you can help us, and I will address the pamphlets from the Police Union.

If you haven’t done so, please download the LiveSafe app. LiveSafe provides a wealth of information and resources describing the campus shuttle, safe walk escort services, personal safety tips, and how to report an emergency.

If you have questions, whether in these exciting opening days or at any point during your time at Yale, my door is always open. For non-emergencies, call 203-432-4400.

Again, welcome to Yale, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
