Start the New Year off right, keep yourself and your belongings safe. Practice these ten easy-to-remember safety resolutions.
- Pedistrian Safety - Don’t walk distracted (e.g. walking with headphones, texting and walking), look both ways before you cross or cross at the cross walk.
- Safety Apps - Download and enable the LiveSafe app and “Find My Phone” features on Apple and Android devices.
- Prevent Bike theft - Use a U lock or combination of a seat cable lock and a wheel lock.
- Bike safely- Don’t ride on the sidewalk. There is a New Haven City ordinance banning it. Be aware of your surroundings, and wear a helmet even if using a razor scooter.
- Protect your property - Keep track of serial numbers for your bike and any electronic or handheld devices. Take pictures of the items and make/model/serial number.
- Lock it or lose it - Lock your doors, windows, and your car, and don’t leave valuables in plain view.
- Practice situational awareness - Be alert, stay in well-lit areas, if a situation seems dangerous or doesn’t fell right, get to a safe place and call Yale PD. Know alternate routes to your common destinations.
- Blue Phones - Know the locations of Blue Phones along the paths you travel frequently.
- Take advantage of Yale Transit, security escorts, TapRide. Download the DoubleMap app to see when and where the Yale shuttle stops.
- Don’t hesitate to contact the Yale Police Department. This can be done by calling 203 432-4400 or through the LiveSafe app. With LiveSafe you can report concerns anonymously. Always dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.
