The Health Expectations Program Turns One!

The Health Expectations Program (HEP) marks its one-year anniversary on April 1st! The collaborative efforts of the University and the unions in promoting the importance of maintaining good health are beginning to pay off.

Last spring, the University, in partnership with its unions, launched the Health Expectations Program (HEP) for union staff members and their spouses, to encourage overall healthy behaviors and promote wellbeing through preventive healthcare actions.

“One of my HEP preventive healthcare requirements included a physical exam, which I hadn’t had in years,” noted one participant. “After some tests ordered by my doctor, I learned I needed major surgery. I highly recommend the HEP program—it saved my life”.

To date, almost 5,000 union employees and spouses are registered with HEP program.  Some other numbers to celebrate are:

  • Over 9,000 HEP preventive care actions have been completed by Yale union employees and their spouses
  • Over 800 HEP participants have actively engaged in confidential health coaching to improve their overall health and achieve their health goals
