Backpack and school supply drive a success

The Yale Police Department (YPD) helped sponsor a recent backpack and school supply drive. During the outdoor event organized by the volunteer group Women of the Village, over 100 stuffed backpacks were given to local children. Families were able to enjoy some ice cream, and the kids got their faces painted. There was even a COVID-19 vaccine and testing site at the event.

YPD Officer Martha Cedeno-Ross supported the event, including being the official “face painter.” She reconnected with a local family she had helped two years ago. “It was wonderful to see them again. The mom even kept a photo from that time and shared it with me. I think it shows the importance of consistency with the community and the relationships I built and nurtured over the years in my community outreach role,” said Martha.
