November 30, 2021

Just before Thanksgiving, the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen got a visit from the Yale Police Dept. Yale Police Officer Gregory Swiantek stopped by with a police vehicle stuffed to the brim with hundreds of cans and boxes of non-perishable food. All this bounty was the result of the successful Stuff-A-Cruiser food drive.

This inaugural event, organized by Officer Swiantek and with the support of several Yale Police officers, involved gathering donations at the Yale Police Department, within the Yale Community, and at the Yale versus Harvard football game held at the Yale Bowl. Just after the game finished, all the food itemsThe Stuff-A-Cruiser food drive was a big success.

were delivered directly to DESK.

“For us, DESK was the obvious choice; they provide food services and other programs for those in the area who need it,” said Officer Swiantek. DESK provides nightly dinners and offers a weekly food pantry serving individuals experiencing homelessness or living in poverty.
