Get to know Karina Julius

April 29, 2022

Karina Julius joined Finance in February 2022, as Director, Financial Training and Development, after spending four and a half years working in Yale Medicine.

Her newly created team, located at 25 Science Park, has been formed to focus on developing and implementing training for finance staff throughout the university to increase their knowledge and skills and support their professional development. Working closely with Finance Operations leadership, the team has been working on launching an eLearning program that transitions the work done over the past year by Task Force 21—making it available to all staff.

Several instructor-led programs will shift to eLearning, making training much more accessible and timelier for staff.

What do you love most about your role and your team?

I love the work we do—identifying training needs and creating innovative training programs. I also love the people I get to work with and the camaraderie that exists on our team—we work hard and have fun together. I am excited about the opportunity to fill a need in the organization and support staff in their development. Being new to Finance, I am eager to know the organization better and build relationships with the great people who work here.

What goals do you have for your team when you look to the future, and which are you most excited about accomplishing?

My immediate goal is to create an onboarding program for finance professionals and roll out new courses. I am excited about creating a training curriculum for Finance staff to help them succeed in their roles and be a resource to the university as we advance.

Fun facts?

I am a first-generation American. Both of my parents immigrated on their own from Europe and met in New York. One of my near-term goals is to visit their families in Sweden and Germany and have my boys meet their European cousins.

I am the mom of two boys and two French bulldogs. I am just getting back into road racing—I am part of a group that my husband created called The Wrecking Crew—our goal is to complete 12 road races in 12 months. Two down, 10 to go!!
