Tell us about yourself.
I’m a New Haven resident, SCSU Alumni and Promise Scholar Alumni. Before Yale, I was working in retail providing customer service at IKEA and Amazon.

Tell us about your job search experience.
My journey began with New Haven Works. I attended a meeting and got paired with an awesome Job Coach. I stayed consistent and diligent with applying to open positions. Eventually my hard work paid off, I was offered a temporary position as an Administrative Assistant. Seven months later I got offered a full-time regular position.

Tell us about your current roles at Yale.
I am a Financial Assistant Floater. As of now I support six departments/programs. I prep and process expenses for my departments daily. That includes processing expenses, submitting reimbursements, and coordinating with the Operations Manager to ensure that all faculty and students are complying with Yale’s policies and procedures related to financial business.

What advice do you have for other job seekers?
I went through New Haven Works. One of the most helpful aspects was my Job Coach, they helped me prep for interviews and reviewed my resumes, which helped me out in the long run. I advise people to stay consistent and determined. Don’t give up and you’ll achieve your dream goal.

What is next for you?
Career-wise, short term, I do want to move up in my current position. Long term, I’m not sure yet. Personally, I’m saving money to get myself into a better financial position.
