NHHI Hiring Spotlight – Errol Williams
October 3, 2023
Tell us about yourself.
Hi, my name is Errol Williams. I was born and raised in New Haven, CT. I lived in almost every neighborhood in New Haven but spent most of my years in Newhallville. A few of my favorite hobbies are playing basketball, playing chess, and listening to music.
Tell us about your job search experience.
My job search experience was a grind. I had an amazing Job Coach and Yale Liaison who helped me along the way. A lot of the opportunities that were available at the time didn’t match my work history or personal preference. The ones I liked, I interviewed for and didn’t get. This went on for almost 2 years. Eventually, I was presented with a Temporary opportunity that went in my favor.
Tell us about your current roles at Yale.
My current role at Yale University is Senior Administrative Assistant in the Member Services Department of the Yale Health Center. I work alongside a great team of workers. I support Yale University Staff and Students with the health plan insurance. Day to day, I’m interacting with people, communicating with my team, and getting through paperwork to get the job done. During my time as a Temp, I took in knowledge from my team and tried to improve myself all around. Nothing was guaranteed, so at minimum I wanted the experience to have provided growth.
What advice do you have for other job-seekers?
My advice would be to stay patient, stay confident, and improve on areas that need fine tuning. However, the right opportunity is going to come when it’s supposed to. My most helpful aspect were the people that believed in me. If you put in the real effort, someone is going to notice that and make it their business to assist you on your journey. Circling back to the first sentence, once your external begins to mirror back what you know, it’s all about patience at that point.
What is next for you?
I look forward to getting familiar with the different groups and programs at Yale University while expanding my network. Personally, I enjoy being a father and staying active.
