Fit-for-Purpose Model Expands to Include Yale Emergency Medical Services
November 2, 2023
Yale Public Safety expands its differential response system to collaborate with Yale Emergency Medical Services (YEMS).
Implemented in 2022, the differential response system, also known as Fit-for-Purpose, determines what emergency responder is necessary based on the type of emergency.
“YEMS is a natural progression of our Fit-for-Purpose model on campus policing at Yale and a standard for campuses across the nation. It’s practical, efficient, and it serves the purpose of enhancing the safety of the Yale community,” said Anthony Campbell, chief of police and associate director of Public Safety.
Yale Emergency Medical Services is an undergraduate organization and state-licensed EMS agency that provides standby coverage to the Yale campus. YEMS students provide complete basic life support-level emergency care on scene.
“YEMS are only assigned to specific events and locations on Yale’s campus, and therefore, their response times can be significantly reduced compared to other outside emergency services,” Campbell said.
