Allegra Jones, Post Award Administrator
January 24, 2024
Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, but I have been a New Haven resident for over ten years. I graduated from James Hillhouse High School and dedicated all four years to playing varsity basketball. I played for another two years at Nichols College, where I completed my bachelor’s degree and a dual master’s degree (MBA and MSOL). I currently work at the Yale School of Medicine as a Post Award Administrator in the Section of Endocrinology. I am also a devoted dog mom to a furry family of 10.
Tell us about your career path.
I interned for the city of New Haven for about five years throughout my undergrad and graduate programs. I worked in multiple departments while interning, such as the public health department, the chief administrative office, corporation counsel, and human resources. I also worked as a sales associate at the Finish Line for two years, which helped me build my customer service skills for my current position—followed by a two-year stint at Amazon. The cumulation of these experiences led me to my current position.
Tell us about your current role at Yale.
I serve as a Portfolio and Grant Analyst in the Department of Internal Medicine. My role involves managing financial portfolios for principal investigators in the Endocrinology section. I am responsible for data analysis, forecasting future financial scenarios, reporting, and budgeting.
What advice do you have for other job seekers?
Your current job might not be your dream job, but every job serves a purpose in building your character and your career. My advice is to stay positive and to network. Positivity, persistence, and networking are vital to the process.
What is next for you?
Over the last two years, I have seen many changes within the department and the school with policies, protocols, and new faces. I hope to move into a managerial position where I can use everything I have learned as a Post Award Administrator to influence policies & procedures and mentor the influx of new faces joining the Yale community.
