What is the primary focus of your team’s work?

The Office of Student Accounts’ critical areas of responsibility includes student account billing, payment, and refund processing. The ultimate goal is to bring all student accounts to a “paid off” status. Because of this, providing exceptional customer service to our students and families is essential. In addition, we manage the repayment of Yale Institutional loans. When our team is not helping answer questions on student accounts or loans, making payments, or obtaining a refund, we also work on federal reporting, 1098T tax forms, and completing monthly journals and reconciliations.

What have been some of your biggest accomplishments in the past year? What about the accomplishments of your team?

This past year, our office has made many changes. We have been looking for additional ways to provide exceptional customer service to our students and families. We have changed our communications strategies to provide more targeted and direct communications and updated our website. In addition, we have been reviewing, testing, and implementing the existing functionality within our Student Information System (Banner) to improve workflows, reduce manual work, and overall improve efficiencies. Specific examples of improvements are the 1098-T eConsent form (reduced thousands of paper mailings), being able to mass upload transactions in Banner (reduced hours of manual work), and creating dynamic forms for late fee appeals and payroll deduction requests.

What projects are you looking forward to in the coming year?

This upcoming year, our team will continue to focus on process improvements that will reduce manual work for our staff and students. One major project is eliminating the paper Student Bond and replacing it with a Student Financial Responsibility Agreement that the student can complete directly through their YaleHub portal.
