Spring Recap: The New Haven Hiring Initiative in Full Bloom

May 23, 2024

Springtime flourished with many opportunities for the New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI), as its community outreach efforts took root and blossomed. The Employment Readiness series, a cornerstone of the initiative, concluded on Monday, May 20th, with a pivotal presentation from Yale’s Talent Acquisition representatives. This session was pivotal, offering insights into navigating the application process for Yale University opportunities via STARS, along with a comprehensive overview of frequently filled positions. The series comprised fifteen one-hour workshops, each providing empowerment, featuring employers and employment resources both within and beyond Yale University’s community. These workshops were attended by over 350 eager participants, who gleaned vital information crucial for their employment journey.

Integral to the initiative’s success was the active involvement of various internal departments, such as Yale’s Library Collection Services and Operations, and Yale’s School of Management. Additionally, collaborative efforts with community partners like YNHH Human Resources and New Haven Public Schools Human Resources reinforced the initiative’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

But the initiative’s impact extended beyond its’ successful workshop. Representatives from the NHHI and Yale Human Resources participated in seven job fairs and community festivals. These events saw hundreds of community members engaged, their interest inspired by the prospects of Yale’s employment opportunities, training programs, and internships. Notable among these events were the Albertus Magnus Career Fair, New Haven Public Schools Career Fair, LEAP Career Fair, YNHH Employment Readiness Session, Fair Haven Day, The Hill Neighborhood Festival, and the TJAY Autism Walk. Each event served as a platform for meaningful interaction and exchange, sowing the seeds of possibility and potential.

As the warmth of summer settles in, we eagerly anticipate the fruitfulness of the seeds planted during these spring endeavors. The journey continues, with the next chapter set to unfold on the first and third Mondays of September 2024, as the Employment Readiness series resumes its mission of education and engagement.
