Chuck Thompson

Since July 2022, Chuck Thompson has served as the Associate CIO, FAS and SEAS. Reporting to the university CIO, John Barden; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), Tamar Gendler; and the Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), Jeff Brock; Chuck provides strategic guidance and operational support for FAS and SEAS and supports the Jackson School of Global Affairs, MacMillan Center, Yale College, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In this role, he works to ensure that all these units’ research, education, and administrative IT needs are met and represents their needs in central IT planning and technology prioritization.

Before joining Yale, he was the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for The Claremont College Services (TCCS). In that role, Chuck was responsible for providing information technology services in support of the seven-member institutions of The Claremont Colleges and supporting the information technology needs of TCCS.

Chuck also served as the Assistant Dean and Chief Information Officer for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In that role, Chuck oversaw the consolidation of all information technology staff in the college into a single shared services organization. He was also very involved with campus-wide activities, such as developing a campus-wide compute cluster service and chairing the governance committee to deploy a campus-wide unified communications system.

Chuck holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from the University of Illinois. Chuck has served on the board of directors for The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) and will be the SCUP 2024 Annual Conference program chair.
