George Hines, Director, Emergency Management.

George Hines has been employed with Yale Public Safety since December 2010. In 2018, he became the director of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Hines and the OEM team have dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic and weather-related emergencies. Under his leadership, the team enhanced the development of the Emergency Operations Team. The team includes more than 60 Yale administrators from the central and west campuses and officials from the city of New Haven and Yale New Haven Hospital, which meet monthly to participate in practice drills and tabletop exercises for emergencies which include major explosions, chemical releases, fire, mass casualty event on campus, and international travel during a flu pandemic.

Before becoming director of Emergency Management, Hines was the director of Public Safety Systems and Communications. His responsibilities included managing the security systems budget and personnel, University ID Centers, Police Dispatch, Central Alarm Station, transit SafeRides, and Cultural Properties.

While at the university, he played an integral part in commissioning the university’s UL-listed central alarm station and has worked diligently to ensure the university’s electronic security systems remain state-of-the-art.

Hines has participated on several university committees, including the Linda K Lorimer Nomination Committee, which awards students, staff, and employees for performing exemplary work to improve the university.

Prior to coming to Yale University, Hines worked for Toys “R” Us, where he held various positions. His last position was with Asset Protection as the corporate manager of investigations. He was responsible for the inception of five investigation centers throughout the country. He was responsible for the inception of five investigation centers throughout the country. He has a vast knowledge of security systems and an innovative thought process, which greatly benefits Yale.

Hines attended Quinnipiac University, where he studied Business Administration.
