A no cost extension is the extension of a project period without additional funding from the sponsor. If a project’s end date is approaching but the principal investigator (PI) identifies that the research needs to continue, a no-cost extension allows the end date to be extended.

A Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) is a legal contract to document the transfer of physical material between Yale University and academic, non-profit, or industrial institutions. MTAs are used primarily to document the transfer of biological materials (plasmids, cell lines, mouse strains, etc.), but also may be used in the transfer of some types of non-biological material. Any Yale faculty member must ensure that an MTA is in place prior to receiving or sending the Material.

A Sponsored Research Agreement (SRA) is a contract between Yale and a sponsor for the purposes of funding and conducting research at Yale. An SRA may be supported by for-profit (e.g., private industry) or non-profit (e.g., state or federal government, foundations, peer institutions etc.) sponsors.
