Representative duties:

  • Services facility and equipment users. Provides information, receives money in payment of fees, issues receipts, and explains programs, schedules, rules and regulations
  • Enforces procedural rules and regulations. Monitors personal safety of athletic facility users
  • Maintains logs and records of membership and activities
  • Schedules use of facility and equipment. Monitors compliance with schedules
  • Oversees and instructs support staff
  • Maintains security of facility and equipment. Opens and closes facility ensuring that users have left the premises
  • Inspects and maintains the general condition of facilities. Performs light cleaning and minor repairs
  • Completes financial and administrative forms
  • Operates, maintains and dispenses specialized equipment, tools, and vehicles
  • Performs additional functions incidental to athletic attendant activities

Required knowledge:

  • General knowledge, high school level; detailed but narrow work-related knowledge

Example 1

General purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of Payne Whitney Gymnasium provide support and coverage for building supervision, membership services, operations desks, and special events.

Essential duties:

  • Monitor and enforce gymnasium and departmental policies and procedures
  • Perform function related to the security of the building: opening and closing protocol; identification challenges and proof of membership; disarm, monitor and arm security systems; and, act as liaison with University Police and Security Programs
  • Oversee and instruct bursary and casual work assignments. Monitor workstations performance and coverage
  • Document and report emergency, maintenance, repair and custodial problems
  • Monitor and maintain emergency and routine maintenance and repair records
  • Monitor and secure guest passes and receipts
  • Maintain and document lobby access utilization records and facility use reports
  • Assist with membership registration and fee collection, locker assignment and use processes, and ID card access clearance
  • Provide coverage at operations desks (lobby, towel and rear guard) and perform required services and functions
  • Assist with the members’ locker clean out and eviction processes, the monitoring of transient locker utilization, and maintaining “personal item” security lockers
  • Post and monitor informational and direction signage throughout the building for the purpose of communicating current accurate information
  • Assist with the updating and posting of seasonal and weekly facilities assignments and schedules, and with the reviewing of user group requests
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and operation of special event group use of the facilities including equipment set-up, staff scheduling, vendor liaison, and event oversight
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of computer security access privileges for students, staff and special users

Education and training:

  • Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Familiarity with computer applications, possess good mechanical aptitude
  • Current Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aid required

Skills and abilities:

  • Duties require moving and lifting heavy objects and involve extensive walking
  • Candidate should have the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse student and user populations, demonstrate positive attitude, flexibility and commitment to teamwork
