General purpose:

Drive vehicle for pick up and delivery of printed materials, supplies, and equipment for RIS. Maintain warehouse and pressroom.

Essential duties:

  • Carry out assignments according to daily schedule
  • Responsible for receiving incoming orders and ensuring accuracy of deliveries from vendors
  • Load and unload packages for deliveries from RIS to warehouse, post office and vendors
  • Maintain transport vehicles
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • May deliver supplies to internal departments as needed and act as backup for other RIS delivery staff
  • Preferred: Must have knowledge of Inventory Control Systems and material paper stock types and usage

Example 2

General purpose:

  • The LSF houses infrequently used materials in environmental conditions ideal for long-term preservation of the collections. The shelving facility does so with attention to minimizing reader inconvenience and to maximizing the economic savings of using off-campus space. The LSF operates with daily production goals set by the Manager, transferring items from the campus libraries into a dirt-free shelving module maintained at 50 degrees Fahrenheit and 30% humidity, with a service goal of retrieving and delivering needed items within one day of request.
  • The successful incumbent must attend assigned training and safety sessions in workflow ergonomics, safety practices, and specific tasks and must perform all tasks following strict safety guidelines. He/she will be required to become certified in the proper use of an order picker after job training. Work will be performed in a low temperature and low humidity environment. Applicants predisposed to severe sinusitis, bronchitis, dry eyes, or underlying circulation or heart disease may find the work environment detrimental to their health.
  • Under the supervision of the LSF Manager, the Delivery Assistant (A) performs a variety of tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the LSF, including loading, driving, and unloading both a truck and a Raymond order picker for pick up and delivery of library materials. Performs clerical functions incidental to delivery and shelving activities, including data entry; assembling, moving and lifting book trays; cleaning items; filling trays with items according to size; preparing and filling orders. Works under direction at campus libraries to retrieve and prepare materials for transfer to the LSF.

Essential duties:

  • Drive 1.5 ton step van for pick up and delivery of library materials between campus libraries and the LSF. Lift totes weighing up to 50 pounds, rolls book trucks on a variety of surfaces including inclines. Operate a pallet jack and a hand truck to load and unload vehicles
  • Operate an order picker within the 6-aisle, 30-foot high shelving module to shelve trays of materials in designated locations and to retrieve specific items with an aisle, shelf, tray and barcode location. This involves lifting two book trucks or a single work platform with the picker forks and driving the vehicle between shelving ranges guided by rails. The driver will then shelve or retrieve items from the shelving by changing the mobile work station elevation
  • May perform routine maintenance on step van and order picker, including pumping gas, checking oil, and charging & maintaining electric battery. Maintain the order and cleanliness of work area and equipment
  • Clean books, archival boxes and other library materials according to specified instructions. Check for special preservation conditions requiring special handling
  • Assemble pre-fabricated cardboard trays
  • Size and places items into trays
  • Enter data into inventory system, following screen formats
  • Load items onto book trucks for transfer to the Shelving Module
  • Link items, trays and shelf barcodes to record in inventory control system
  • Prepare orders for lending items out of the LSF, matches library materials against order record
  • Assist on-campus transfer operation by retrieving books from the stacks
  • Perform other duties as assigned and according to a schedule that might rotate or change to accommodate work demands or staffing variations

Experience and training:

  • Little or no work experience and a high school level education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Preferred: Demonstrated experience working successfully in a multi-task and team environment performing rotating tasks
  • Preferred: Experience in a warehouse or other production environment and safely operating a one-ton truck and an order picker

Essential duties of position:

  • Receive and sign for packages. Open boxes and ensure that contents match the packing slips
  • Deliver and pick up a broad range of materials within the designated facilities
