Representative duties:

  • Serves as a basic source of information to clients on style, format, materials, price and services available
  • As part of the delivery services, provides general customer service support to clients on an as-needed basis. Addresses requests/concerns or refers clients to the appropriate person
  • Reviews and verifies accuracy of job tickets and other office documentation. Sorts and prioritizes items for delivery
  • Receives, sorts, prioritizes and processes orders for delivery
  • Drives vehicle for pick-up and delivery services
  • Delivers items to specific locations
  • Maintains the order of work area and vehicle. May repair vehicle
  • Performs clerical function incidental to delivery activities, including maintaining and logging orders for pickup and delivery

Required knowledge:

  • General knowledge, high school level; detailed but narrow work-related knowledge

Required skills:

Example 1

General purpose:

Provide delivery of live animals, equipment, supplies, and information to clients throughout the Yale campus.

Essential duties of the position:

  • Provide general customer service support to clients on an as needed basis
  • Address requests/concerns or refer clients to the appropriate person
  • Sort and prioritize items for delivery, including scheduling and availability of loading docks
  • Ensure that animals are maintained in temperature-controlled environments and delivered with a high level of care and compassion to minimize stress and prevent injury to the animals
  • Drive vehicle for pick-up and delivery services and load and unload vehicles
  • Decontaminate transportation vehicles after each use
  • Maintain the order of work areas and vehicles. May repair vehicle, or deliver and pick up from repair center
  • Perform clerical functions incidental to delivery activities, including maintaining and logging orders or pick-up and delivery. Maintain vehicle maintenance and travel logs

Education and training:

  • Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education

Skills and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Must be capable of lifting 70 lbs.
  • Employment contingent upon the successful completion of a health screening
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must complete the Yale Driver’s course within six months of hire

Example 2

General purpose:

Receives, tracks, picks ups and delivers items at numerous locations for ITS/Med Print and Copy Services department.

Essential duties of position:

  • Drive vehicle for pick-up and delivery services
  • Sorts and prioritizes items for delivery and delivers to specific locations
  • Check for accuracy of job tickets and other documentation
  • Manage delivery schedule to insure services are consistently delivered in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintain the order of work area and vehicle
  • Perform clerical functions incidental to delivery activities, including completion of daily delivery and vehicle maintenance reports
  • Perform customer service functions by interacting with clients, addressing their requests and concerns, and communicating the details of those concerns to the supervisor or manager
  • May assist with production functions: running of copiers or finishing procedures, stuffing and labeling envelopes

Education and training:

  • Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • At least one-year prior delivery experience and knowledge of Medical Center locations

Skills and abilities:

  • Must have valid CT driver’s license
  • Ability to perform work effectively with many interruptions and under pressure
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a flexible attitude toward work assignments
  • Must be organized
  • Ability to walk long distances
  • Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs.
