Required Knowledge:

General Purpose:
Serve as source of information on design, size, format and production techniques.

Essential duties of position:
1. Work with clients to suggest design modification. Determine methods and materials to best complete job. Prepare time and cost estimates and final bill. Organize and track workflow.
2. Oversee and instruct support staff. Assist manager with the daily organization and production of the unit.
3. Using both traditional and computer methods, prepare and revise visual materials for slides, posters, publications and grant submissions.
4. Perform computer support and maintenance. Oversee file management, archive and back-up systems. Keep updated with computer technology and advise clients on software and hardware support issues.
5. Shoot slides from books and other flat material. Develop black and white film for slides, mask and mount slides.

Experience and training:
1. Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
2. Two years’ work exp. using Macintosh Computer graphic packages.
3. Preferred: BA or BFA in commercial or fine arts or BS in biology. Medical or scientific background.

Skills and abilities:
1. Photography: Processing black and white film.
2. Macintosh computer support and troubleshooting.
3. Image scanning and page lay-up using Adobe PhotoShop and QuarkXPress.
4. Preferred: Exp. shooting copy work, In-situ or medical images. Exp. with Freehand or Illustrator, Persuasion, Power Point, Canvas, MS Office, Delta Graph and web design/HTML editors.
