Provide technical assistance in the daily operations of the autopsy room and morgue, ensuring compliance with all department and legal requirements.

Prepare bodies for postmortem examinations.  Wash, dry, measure, and position bodies.  Prepare and preserve tissue and specimens.  Assist in body dissection.

Provide for and ensure that appropriate hygiene and sanitary standards are observed and maintained.

Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and materials.  Maintain inventory, order supplies as necessary.

Create and maintain records, logs, and databases of information, complete necessary forms and other paperwork.

Create and maintain files of classroom and teaching materials.  Set up visual aids for classroom instruction.

Oversee, instruct, and serve as a source of information to students, medical staff, and others on autopsy procedures.

Train regular, student, and casual workers in their duties.  May act as lead person in the absence of the supervisor.

Lead responsibilities, such as:
Work directly with Autopsy Manager to administer and develop day to day operations of the service, including overseeing, coordinating, distributing and monitoring the work of at least 2 regular FTEs as a lead worker.

Independently determine whether bodies can be released or referred.  Coordinate the release of bodies with families, clinicians, funeral directors, etc.
