Grade E

Build both basic and complex museum exhibits, frames, housings, mounts, display cases, etc., working from a design or blueprint.

Maintain and repair museum exhibits and displays, ensuring the safety of visitors and art objects. Install and disassemble exhibits and displays.

Assist in the design of exhibits and displays. Develop time and cost estimates. Manage own workload to ensure that deadlines are adhered to. Coordinate with Curators and other staff to ensure appropriate art work displays.

Prepare art works for transportation in accordance with instructions from team leaders and established procedures and standards. Handle, move, pack, and unpack works of art.

Maintain assigned mechanical parts and machines within museum, such as heating and cooling systems. Monitor and maintain humidity levels, temperature, and air handlers, air compressors, steam valves, pumps, etc. Maintain plumbing throughout building.

Establish and maintain lighting for museum displays, using current standards and techniques, ensuring proper and safe lighting.

Schedule and coordinate appointments for contractors, service providers, fire marshals, etc.

Track and record artworks and materials/supplies. Perform data entry and recording keeping duties.

Provide technical support to other staff within museum and contractors.

Train regular, student, or casual workers in their duties. May act as lead person in the absence of the supervisor.

Lead responsibilities, such as:
Administrative leadership of a unit or function, including overseeing and coordinating projects or work processes, and distributing and monitoring the work of at least 2 regular FTEs as a lead worker.

Coordinate and oversee long-term projects, including developing and documenting procedures and ensuring that procedures are followed.

Responsibilities require high skills, unusual skills, or a combination of multiple skills not typically required by others in the same job title. For example:

Responsible for independent problem resolution in the area of art packing/transportation for large or unusual collections.

Responsible for the design, planning, and construction of original equipment, complex exhibits/displays, etc., requiring the understanding and appreciation of aesthetics, art history, conservation and security, in addition to construction trade expertise.

Act as expert resource and consultant throughout the museum regarding such issues as art conservation; mounts and mount making; packing, storage, and transportation, etc.
