ACCELERATOR TECHNICIAN
Based on specialized experience and knowledge, perform complex Accelerator Technician activities that support nuclear structure physics, astrophysics, and application research.

Perform on-shift set-up, operation, and maintenance of the ESTU particle accelerator and associated systems in accordance with established procedures, policies, and protocols, including insuring and enforcing radiation and occupational safety procedures and regulations.

Assist with the testing and development of new ion beams and experimental components.  Assist with maintenance projects and perform other duties incidental to research projects.

Train regular, student, or casual workers in their duties.  May act as lead person in the absence of the supervisor.

MEDICAL R&D TECHNICIAN
Based on specialized experience and knowledge, provide custom design and fabrication of electronic and mechanical medical research equipment, based on own designs and those supplied by others.

Perform maintenance of in-house built and commercially built electronic and mechanical medical research equipment.

Provide guidance and advice to faculty and researchers regarding equipment design, modification, acquisition, use, and applications for specific research efforts and activities.

Purchase equipment and supplies.  Coordinate with outside vendors and internal business staff.

Evaluate and troubleshoot equipment performance.  Determine the type of equipment maintenance and repairs that are needed, as well as whether repairs can be performed in house or require outside assistance.  Arrange for service vendors to perform repairs as needed.

Train regular, student, or casual workers in their duties.  May act as lead person in the absence of the supervisor.

Administrative leadership of a unit or function, including overseeing and coordinating projects or work processes, and distributing and monitoring the work of at least 2 regular FTEs as a lead worker.
