Install, move, and modify telecommunications and related equipment according to job order specifications, standards, and procedures.

Build, test, maintain, and repair various types of data, networking, and telecommunications systems and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and recommendations.

Provide data communication for University staff and students for data networking and security, including phone lines, video, mechanical circuits, alarm circuits, fiber optic and copper cable, T1 and ISDN circuits, etc.

Establish time and cost estimates.  Maintain accurate records of work orders, staff hours, and materials used.

Assist with high security, emergency, and/or sensitive projects (such as White House Communications).

Interact with customer throughout the project regarding the service being performed.

Train, instruct, and provide guidance for regular, student, or casual workers and others in their duties.  May act as lead person in the absence of the supervisor.

Includes duties described in Grade D, but also involves:

Lead responsibilities, such as:
Administrative leadership of a unit or function, including overseeing and coordinating projects or work processes, and distributing and monitoring the work of at least 2 regular FTEs as a lead worker.

Plan and coordinate installations and repair projects based on independent interpretation of blueprints and other documents.  Determine options and select course of action for the reconfiguration networking and paths of voice and data circuitry to ensure optimal and appropriate data transmission.
