Champion IT strategy and inclusive practices by attending two new training sessions

April 1, 2021

Over a year has passed since IT initiated its balanced scorecard and diversity and inclusion training on unconscious bias. Building upon those programs’ success, two follow-up training modules were launched today (April 1, 2021) on the Training Management System (TMS). All ITS staff, including temps and casuals, must complete these training modules by the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2021).

The new courses—each only 15 minutes in length, were developed to support IT’s FY21 balanced scorecard goals and its Workplace of Choice strategic anchor, and they include:

  • ITS Inclusionary practices - These assist employees in working better with others of differing abilities, backgrounds, nationalities, and genders. It emphasizes being inclusive of all employees and explains the benefits of doing so.
  • ITS Balanced Scorecard - Provides employees with an understanding of ITS strategic initiatives and highlights critical areas of focus for the fiscal year. This session includes our Chief Information Officer’s insights on the Balanced Scorecard and an in-depth review of the FY21 goals.

Completing the balanced scorecard training will prepare staff to connect their work to IT’s strategic objectives within their year-end reviews. Blanche Temple will also invite staff managers and supervisors to attend an upcoming training session on evaluating these connections when giving performance feedback and establishing annual goals.

Leadership has encouraged staff managers and supervisors to conduct this training with their teams; however, staff may also complete the training individually. After the training, which requires Virtual Private Network (VPN) access for those working remotely, individuals should log in to Yale’s Training Management System (TMS) to complete the attestation and register course completion.

Apriel Biggs, Director of the Portfolio Management Office & IT Staff Development, partnered with her team and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to develop the training modules and “is excited to be included in the community helping to socialize IT’s strategic efforts.” She added that, throughout this work, “the SLT has been intentional in developing the FY21 goals to ensure they represent IT’s current body of work and the needs of its stakeholders. The content is crisp and clear, making it easy to understand and personalize.”
