Reminder: processing staff terminations

In accordance with Staff Workplace Policies, an employee’s medical, dental, and/or vision insurance coverage in effect at termination of employment will continue through the end of the month. A delay in recording the correct date of termination can lead to an extra month of coverage, resulting in additional expense to the University.
For example, if a salaried employee’s last day worked is on the last day of the month, but the termination is entered as of the first of the following month, the individual will receive an extra month of insurance coverage.
To avoid this issue, business offices are encouraged to work with managers to process the staff member’s last day worked by following steps outlined in the Workday training guide. Terminations in Workday should reflect the actual last day worked at Yale.
