Updated process for expiring NetIDs beginning Thursday, March 31

March 23, 2022

To improve security, beginning Thursday, March 31, Yale ITS will change how we process expiring NetIDs.

Currently, ITS manually disables NetIDs of faculty and staff no longer affiliated with the University periodically. As of Thursday, March 31, ITS will automate this process and introduce a communication cadence.

The NetID system will automatically disable NetIDs for faculty, staff, and those considered other academic affiliates in Workday after a 45-day grace period. Notifications will be sent to those affected at the following intervals before the NetID becomes disabled:

  • 30 days prior
  • ten days prior
  • three days prior

NetIDs of sponsored identities, academic affiliates, temporary, casual, and contingent workers will be disabled on their expiry date.

Anyone who feels their NetID is expiring in error should contact their department’s business office to request an update to their Workday record or request a sponsored identity affiliation. The only way to enable a NetID is to obtain an active affiliation with the university.

Note: This change does not impact students or alumni.
