2023 student NetID locking initiative

June 9, 2023

Summary

  • Yale’s Information Technology Services (ITS) will lock NetIDs for students who have graduated following a one-year grace period. A similar initiative successfully went live in March 2022 for faculty, staff, and sponsored identities.
  • Graduates from the Schools of Management and Law are out of scope at this time and will be excluded.

Details

  • For 2022 Yale Graduates, their NetIDs will be locked in early August 2023.
  • For 2023 Yale Graduates, their NetIDs will be locked 365 days after graduation.
  • For pre-2022 graduates with active NetIDs, but who don’t have an active role with Yale, their NetIDs will be locked in batches. Timing and communications will be scheduled through a collaborative effort with the individual schools, the Student Technology Collaborative (STC), and the ITS Help Desk.
  • For additional information about access to resources following graduation, visit the Student Technology page.

What to expect

Graduating students affected by this initiative will receive three notifications prior to their NetID locking:

  • 30 days prior
  • 10 days prior
  • 3 days prior

These notifications will include detailed O365 and Eliapps account backup and archiving instructions, helpful links, and guidance. Individuals with ITIL access to ServiceNow may view more information about the messaging to the graduating students via ServiceNow ticket RITM0341719; others may contact the ITS Help Desk with any questions.
