Ask SLT - June 2023

June 9, 2023

“Ask John” is now “Ask SLT,” and IT staff are invited to anonymously share a question, challenge, or opportunity with IT’s Senior Leadership Team. Responses to recently submitted questions appear below:

Do we have an ITS Continual Improvement Register for internal projects, such as a backlog of suggestions? Curious because I’m exploring options for FAS-SEAS IT.

Providing ways for great ideas to drive continuous improvement for our services is on many people’s minds. This year’s Balanced Scorecard includes an initiative focusing on this - its vision is to explore ways to shift aspects of our culture to foster individual empowerment and innovative solutions to address constituent needs better while continuing to improve service quality. The team working on this initiative released a survey and conducted focus groups to better understand where innovation thrives in the broad IT at Yale community and what opportunities exist to foster innovative thinking. The team has drafted goals which will be shared with IT leadership shortly. The group is not currently recommending a registry as it is focused on developing a culture of “raising your hand” where people with great ideas know how to advance them and feel empowered to do so.

As One IT, we encourage you to “raise your hand” and contact an ITS or distributed IT leader whenever you have ideas. For example, Chuck Thompson would be your contact for FAS-SEAS IT to discuss faculty, student, and staff support improvements. Additionally, the “Ask SLT” form remains an option if you wish to share ideas anonymously or receive guidance on whom to talk with about your ideas. We look forward to hearing from you.
