Details

The Finance Training and Development team is excited to announce the upcoming launch of Finance Foundations, a comprehensive onboarding program that focuses on the key aspects of finance operations at Yale. This program will equip all new hires in finance-related or supporting roles with the core foundational knowledge needed to succeed. Although needs can be unique based on the area you serve, the foundational knowledge required is consistent from role to role and department to department.

As part of the OneFinance Strategic Initiative, this learning program was developed to simplify and standardize the finance onboarding process for new hires and ensure they understand how their role contributes to Yale’s culture of financial integrity. This program also simplifies the onboarding process for managers. Rather than expend time and/or resources to build foundational training content, managers can focus their time and energy on coaching and development of their new staff member specific to their role.

Finance Foundations Overview

  • Finance Foundations is a collection of courses designed to provide users with a robust overview of financial functions at Yale.
  • For more detailed descriptions of each course, select Course Catalog on the Finance Foundations overview page.

What else do you need to know now?

  • Staff newly hired to Yale University in an accounting or finance role will automatically be assigned* the program in Workday Learning; it will appear in the “Recommended for You” section of the learner’s Workday Learning dashboard.
  • Staff who transfer into a financial role from another role within Yale University that will benefit from this program should be assigned the program in Workday Learning by their manager. Visit Workday@Yale Training for information on how to enroll staff into a course or program. Use “Finance Foundations Onboarding” for your search term.
  • It is recommended that new hires complete this program within their first 45 days.

Please note, Workday will automatically assign this program to all newly hired staff whose job profile is in the accounting or finance job family. If your new hire is in a generic job profile that is not in the accounting or finance job family, they may not be automatically assigned the program. Therefore, it is a best practice to check Workday Learning for your employee’s enrollment status for this program after their start date. If they do not have the program assigned, you will be able to assign the program as their manager. Visit Workday@Yale Training for information on how to enroll staff into a course or program.
