Details

Managers play a critical role in the onboarding process, helping new staff members learn about Yale, the financial principles at Yale, and how to function in their new role. By providing Finance Foundations as an onboarding experience for new hires, we are enabling managers to coach their staff on the nuances of the department rather than focus their time on financial basics. By building a strong understanding of the basic structure and operations of finance here, new hires will begin their Yale careers equipped to help our Finance community continue to grow our culture of financial integrity, insight, and stewardship.

Finance Foundations Highlights

  • Staff newly hired to Yale University in a finance or accounting role will automatically be assigned* the program in Workday Learning; it will appear in the “Recommended for You” section of the learner’s Workday Learning dashboard.
  • Staff who transfer into a financial role from another role within Yale University that will benefit from this program should be assigned the program in Workday Learning by their manager. Visit Workday Learning for Managers for information on how to enroll staff into a course or program. Use “Finance Foundations Onboarding” for your search term.
  • It is recommended that new hires complete this program within their first 45 days.

*NOTE: Workday will automatically assign this program to all newly hired staff whose job profile is in the accounting or finance job family. If your new hire is in a generic job profile that is not in the accounting or finance job family, they may not be automatically assigned the program. Therefore, it is a best practice to check Workday Learning for your employee’s enrollment status for this program after their start date. If they do not have the program assigned, you will be able to assign the program as their manager. Visit Workday Learning for Managers for information on how to enroll staff into a course or program.

How can you engage with this now?

  • Familiarize yourself with Finance Foundations Course Catalog so you can reinforce key concepts and speak to questions from any new hires you have in the future.
  • Incorporate key talking points about Finance Foundations into any welcome messages you send to new hires, outlining what the program will teach them, expectations around completion, and how they will access this training.
  • Make sure you know what to do if your new hire doesn’t have Finance Foundations assigned in Workday Learning. You will be able to assign the program as a manager.
