International Operations & Compliance training opportunities: Spring 2024

The training sessions below will be offered this spring for Yale staff, in particular those whose work includes supporting international activities.   1. International Payments:  the next session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.  This training covers US tax requirements that apply when making payments to non-U.S. individuals and entities, including U.S. tax reporting and withholding obligations, documentation requirements, and U.S. visa restrictions (related to making payments). Presented by Daysi Cardona, Tracey Finer, and Monsi Wooten.
  2. Anti-Corruption Laws:  on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, learn about the U.S. anti-corruption law “the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” when it may apply to activities conducted by Yale, and strategies for compliance. This training will be delivered by Alyssa Greenwald, Senior Associate General Counsel at Yale.
  3. U.S. Export Controls: introductory training on US export controls on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Yale’s Director of Export Controls, Mark Stomski, will provide an overview of what US export controls are, when they are likely to come up at Yale, and what resources are available to assist, including where to request help. 
  4. International Data Privacy: on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, learn about international data privacy laws, including in particular the European Union’s “General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR)”.  Presented by Yale’s Chief Privacy Officer, Susan Bouregy, the training will cover what the GDPR and other countries’ data privacy laws require, when they apply to activities conducted by Yale, and strategies for compliance.
