On Thursday, March 14, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Future Leaders of Yale, and Working Women’s Network had the pleasure of partnering with and supporting the YWCA Hartford Region with their Community Matters: What is Period Poverty? event and packing party. Period Poverty is a health issue impacting individuals, their families, and the community, with 30% of Americans unable to afford monthly period products and hygiene necessities. This often leads to chronic school absenteeism and employment struggles/insecurity. The Community Matters event showcased the power of community and collaboration by coming together to shed light on the important issue of period poverty and ensuring everyone has access to menstrual hygiene products. We exceeded our goal of 200 bags by 100, with 300 bags being distributed throughout the community to women and girls in need!
