Additional award sponsor hierarchy fields available

Effective May 17, additional award sponsor fields are being added to the Finance Data Mart which have been created to assist the community in navigating the sponsor hierarchy. Various levels were added to provide reporting flexibility depending on the business need. They are:

• Leaf Level
  • Provides the name of the funding institution at the lowest level. For example, American Liver Foundation, Clemson University, National Cancer institute (NCI)/NIH/DHHS. This will match the “Award Sponsor” field in the FDM.
• Parent Level
  • Federal Sponsors: Lists the funding agency the sponsor rolls up to. For example, US National Institutes of Health (NIH)/DHHS.
  • Non Federal Sponsors: Lists Award Sponsor Type (Business/For-Profit, Educational Institution/Health Facilities, Foreign Business, Foreign Government, Foreign Non-Profit, Private Foundation, Public Charitable Organizations, State Gov’t (non-CT)/Local Gov’t, State of CT).
• Award Sponsor Parent Level
  • Lists the funding agency the Federal Level sponsor rolls up to. For example, US National Institutes of Health (NIH)/DHHS. This will be blank for all Non Federal sponsors.
• Grand Parent Level
  • Federal Sponsors: Lists the funding agency the Parent Level sponsor rolls up to. For example, US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
  • Non Federal Sponsors: Lists Award Sponsor Type (Business/For-Profit, Educational Institution/Health Facilities, Foreign Business, Foreign Government, Foreign Non-Profit, Private Foundation, Public Charitable Organizations, State Gov’t (non-CT)/Local Gov’t, State of CT)
• Award Sponsor Grand Parent Level
  • Lists the funding agency the Federal Parent Level sponsor rolls up to. For example, US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This will be blank for all Non Federal sponsors.
• Top Level
  • This level determines if the sponsor is “Federal Government” or “Non Federal Government”.
