Policy & Procedure update - August 23, 2023

August 23, 2023

The following revised policy document is now published and effective. Please discuss the document with the appropriate people in your department and send any questions to controllers.office@yale.edu.

Policy 3201 General Purchasing

This revised policy originates from Procurement. The revisions are intended to clarify the applicability of certain purchasing requirements to specific categories of purchases. Specifically, these updates add two categories to the set of exclusions from the requirement for comparative pricing (i.e., the requirement to obtain multiple supplier quotes, conduct competitive bidding, justify sole source, etc.). Those two categories, now exempt from comparative pricing requirements, are as follows:

  • Professional dues and memberships; and
  • Payments to government agencies for permits, applications, licenses, and fees; engagement of state/municipal law enforcement for security services.

Please note that other requirements of Policy 3201 and its related procedures still apply.  These updates are part of a continuous improvement effort to clarify and enhance policies and procedures.
