Meeting Notes for Managers, October 2022

Below is a summary of university-wide news and workplace information for you to reinforce with your teams during staff meetings or via email updates:

University-wide message from Provost Strobel
On October 26, Scott Strobel, Provost, sent this annual update on new and ongoing facilities improvements on campus in support of Yale’s academic missions. Read message.

Healthy Yale
A message on October 27 from Yale’s COVID-19 Coordinator, Stephanie Spangler, addressed this—“Students will be required to get an updated, bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster by the start of the spring semester; faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to get their updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters as soon as possible; pop-up clinics on Cross Campus will provide additional booster availability in November; paying attention to symptoms protects you and others.” Read Healthy Yale message.

Reconnect. It’s your job too.
Managers can create a supportive environment to accommodate their employees’ requests for PTO throughout the year by encouraging work-life balance: Discuss with staff how it is also their job to find ways to step away from work and return refreshed and recharged. Tips and resources to make the most of their paid time off include exploring Connecticut’s top-ten hiking trails, and more. Reminder: The deadline to utilize M&P staff PTO Max has been extended to November 30, 2022—for both 2021 and 2022 M&P PTO Max balances.

It is flu-shot season
Remind your team members that flu shot scheduling is now available. You can find more information about the flu vaccine and why it is important on the Yale Health flu page. To learn more about how to get your flu shot and to self-schedule an appointment, please visit the Flu Shot Tool Finder.

In-person tours resume for new staff members
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the University’s New Employee Orientation program has been presented via Zoom. For the near future, we will continue this approach as it is currently the best way to accommodate varying work arrangements.

To help new staff members connect with campus and one another, we are inviting them to attend an optional in-person tour to extend their orientation experience. Tours begin at the Yale Visitor Center and end “down at the tables at Mory’s” for nibbles, networking, and give-aways. Please feel free to extend the registration for the next tour to your new staff members. Register for a tour today. VPN is rquired.
