Google Cloud Platform now included as part of the Cloud Support service

September 9, 2021

In early 2021, ITS Cloud Engineering completed the initial configuration of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for low-risk data and began offering projects in Yale’s GCP organization to early adopters. GCP is now included as part of the Cloud Support service offering.

Cloud Support provides support and guidance for Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts, Microsoft Azure subscriptions, and GCP projects to house cloud resources for departments, schools, labs, or other Yale organizations. Using Cloud Support has advantages such as central billing, usage discounts, security guardrails and the ability to create servers on Yale subnets.

While smaller than either AWS or Azure, GCP distinguishes itself by deep technical expertise and industry-leading tools in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics. Also cost for some GCP resources can be less than either AWS or Azure.
