Retired and replaced: The Academic Record, a MOD PL/SQL web application

February 10, 2022

The Academic Record, a MOD PL/SQL web application using Oracle Reports run by many academic administrative departments on campus as a form of unofficial transcript and advisory tool for over 15 years has been retired and replaced by reporting tools Degree Audit and Jaspersoft. This furthers our team’s goals to reduce technical debt, chiefly Oracle Reports, and provide our functional owners and users with modern, innovative technology that better meets their needs.

The ITS SASS team worked closely with the University Registrar’s Office and Yale College Dean’s Office to plan and execute this change starting in early FY22. The target date to complete was the end of FY22, with a stretch goal to be done by December 31, 2021. The team met that stretch goal and restricted access to end-users right after returning from winter recess.

The project was challenging both technically and functionally. To meet the technical challenge, the IT team made configurations changes to Degree Audit and created or enhanced Jaspersoft reports, to address the reporting requirements. To meet the functional challenges, IT and the University Registrar’s Office provided education and training to the Yale College Dean’s Office and other stakeholders so they could continue to support advising and reporting needs.
