Possible action required - VPN upgrade - beginning Wednesday, January 4

December 8, 2022

Summary

  • Yale ITS will update the Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network (VPN) server beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5.
  • Individuals with older VPN software installed may experience a prompt to upgrade when attempting to connect to VPN. To avoid prompts occurring at an inconvenient time, consider upgrading the VPN software before the maintenance.
  • Although ITS expects no outages, please be aware that logging into Yale’s VPN may take longer than usual.

Details

The purpose of this work is to support individuals working remotely.

Yale’s VPN is a way to securely access Yale’s on-campus services and resources on the University or Yale-New Haven Health System (YNHHS) networks from a non-Yale internet source. Individuals with ITIL access to ServiceNow may view the complete listing of applications requiring VPN access (login required); others may contact the ITS Help Desk with specific inquiries.

When attempting to log into the VPN, if your computer is using an older version of the VPN software, the system will prompt you to upgrade this software prior to logging in.

The updated VPN software is now available in the Software Center (for managed Windows computers), InTune (for managed macOS), or the Software Library (for computers not managed by ITS).
