IT Academy: Speaker Series resumes, upcoming training, and survey invite

August 10, 2023

Speaker series resumes

The IT Academy resumed its speaker series for FY24 with a Café IT on “IT Early Career Development Experiences” hosted in late July. Look for future speaker series events in IT Update and participate in our survey (further in this message) to share feedback for future IT Learning and Development programming.

If you missed the July 19 Foundations of Gender and Sexuality session jointly offered by IT Learning & Development and IT Human Resources and co-hosted by Samuel Neil Byrd, Director of Yale’s Office of LGBTQ Resources, you can still learn more. Participants learned how we are socialized about sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. It also provided fundamental awareness of basic allyship practices for access, equity, and inclusion in the LGBTQ community. While we did not record the session, you can email itlearning@yale.edu to request a rich set of support materials and the presentation slides.

Tech Talk

IT Admin/Business Office Guidance & How To’s/FAQs: “Everything you didn’t know you needed to know.”

Thursday, Aug. 17, noon-1 p.m. (Virtual)

Please join Cheri Ross and IT Administration and Business Office representatives as they review the most common foibles they encounter and provide the community with instructions on properly and efficiently completing business office requests. Have questions about event planning or group emails? Want to know how to request a Statement of Work consultant or order non-standard staff computer equipment or peripherals? Learn what you should know about supplier requests to limit the number of times your expense reports bounce back. This talk and Q&A session will allow IT staff an opportunity to get clarity on the different business office processes we use across our organization. To RSVP to this talk and receive the Zoom link, please check your email or contact itlearning@yale.edu.

Developer Lunch and Learn: Inclusive Design

Tuesday, Aug. 29, noon-1:15 p.m.

Join the Digital Accessibility team for a session on Inclusive Design. In this session, we highlight what it means to consider inclusive design, what that practically looks like, when it’s appropriate, and how it overlaps with universal design principles.

Pre-register for the August 29 Lunch and Learn training in Yale’s Training Management System (TMS). Find the Zoom link on the TMS registration page. Note: Login to Yale’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) may be required.

Survey

IT L&D continues to gather feedback from the IT community about staff training, learning, and professional development. To better build courses and opportunities that fit your needs, we invite any Yale IT staff member to complete this survey. The survey is anonymous, but as an incentive to complete it in good faith, IT staff will be automatically entered to win swag. Please reach out to itlearning@yale.edu if you have any questions or would like to provide feedback.
