Possible action required: I-9 documentation requirements

August 23, 2023

During the pandemic, the United States Department of Homeland Security permitted interim completion of I-9s remotely for individuals working off campus. That interim period has passed, and I-9 documentation must now be submitted in person. For the I-9 process to be complete, documentation must be submitted in person by August 31, 2023, per the government-provided deadline.

Employees requiring document submission and their managers were notified on July 6, 2023. In the coming days, a follow-up communication will be sent to employees who have yet to comply. In addition, HR partners will be provided with a list of employees who must submit documentation in person. We ask that HR partners work with their respective units and departments to ensure that all individuals have completed the process.

Employees who do not provide their physical inspection of documents by Thursday, August 31, 2023, must stop working and will not receive pay until the documents have been provided to the I-9 center.

If an employee is unable to make it to the I-9 center at 221 Whitney Avenue to show their documents, they may follow the remote I-9 process and complete a new, paper form I-9. This process, along with the normal I-9 process can be found on the Employee Services web pages on IYY.
