Finance and IT Staff learn lifesaving skills during onsite CPR/AED training

October 12, 2023

On September 21, IT and Finance colleagues had the opportunity to receive Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) training at 25 Science Park. Participants – including five Finance and eight IT staff members – were guided through detailed life-saving instructions and underwent hands-on practice sessions with medical equipment. A two-year American Heart Association certification card was provided at the conclusion of the course.

The training addressed how to respond in a cardiac arrest episode, including how to apply manual chest compressions with artificial ventilation for CPR and how to use a medical device to deliver electrical shock to restore heart function. These two skills, which aid in restoring blood circulation and promoting breathing, can often be the difference between life and death.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, citing the “amazing instructor” and the quality of the training being “so much better than previously experienced.”  Mark Manton, ITS’s Director of Finance and Administration and the EMS volunteer who initiated the training is considering hosting a second session, given the level of interest. He thanked the group for participating and noted the importance of bystander intervention as “being in the right place at the right time” in a medical emergency.

Congratulations to all newly CPR-certified staff who are equipped to provide support in a cardiac arrest medical emergency! Attendees included: Andrew Breault, Blake Bergeron, Cheri Ross, Tedd Darash, Stephen Diaz-Romero, Michael van Emmenes, Debra Houle, Kiran Keshav, Kathleen King, Margherita Leonard, Red McGarry, Vidhya Narayanan, Ilene Omerso and Ryan Schlagheck.
