Advancing Collaboration: One IT as a Catalyst

January 11, 2024

On March 20, the IT community at Yale – distributed and central – will congregate on Science Hill for an inaugural One IT Conference. The full-day, in-person conference (anticipated to be held annually) will feature an opening keynote panel discussion at Marsh Auditorium at the Yale Science Building, conference sessions at the School of the Environment on timely topics presented by IT colleagues, and “birds of a feather” discussions. We expect this to be the first of many opportunities for you to connect with your peers.

The idea for the conference came from the desire to continue building and fostering deeper connections across Yale’s IT community. The conference was prioritized as Balanced Scorecard Initiative #1 (Engagement with the IT Community) to ensure greater visibility and progress. A planning committee was formed with volunteers from across campus and is co-chaired by Chuck Thompson and Ray McKeon. For co-chair Chuck Thompson, “The conference presents a unique opportunity to highlight our progress with IT at Yale and uncover the partnerships and collaborations that fuel that progress.” He added, “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on March 20.”

The theme for the conference, Advancing Collaboration: IT as the Catalyst, emerged from the impact of the entire IT community at Yale working together to provide top-notch technology support and services to aid the university’s academic, research, clinical, and cultural missions. Working together as One IT helps advance Yale.

In December, the planning committee sent a survey targeting the IT community to solicit and incorporate feedback on proposed topics. Conference attendees will have multiple ways to engage beyond just being attendees. These include a poster presentation (submissions due by February 20) showcasing collaborations or team introductions, delivering on a topic during a concurrent session, and networking opportunities.

This event highlights existing and potential collaborations between the various IT units and provides opportunities to cultivate new relationships with colleagues.

The conference will include breakfast and lunch, with a closing reception on the 14th floor of the newly renovated Kline Tower.
