Canadian students and scholars do not need a visa to enter the United States, however you must be sure to complete your I-94 record with the U.S. immigration official at your point of entry to the United States.

F-1 student status under Yale University sponsorship (Form I-20 is issued by Yale University).

J-1 Exchange Visitor under Yale University’s J-1 Program Sponsorship (Form DS-2019 is issued by Yale University).  This category includes:

  • J-1 Student;
  • J-1 Professor and Researcher;
  • J-1 Short Term Scholar.

A-2: Other foreign government official or employee.

G-1: Principal resident representative of recognized foreign member government to international organization.

G-4: International organization officer or employee.

P-1 Internationally Recognized Athlete or Entertainment Group or Essential Support Personnel: Individuals in the U.S. as internationally recognized athletes competing individually or as part of a team, or individuals performing as part of an entertainment group that has been internationally recognized, and their essential support personnel.

P-2 Artist or Entertainer Under a Reciprocal Exchange Program: Individuals in the U.S. as artists or entertainers, operating individually or as a group, who will be performing under a reciprocal exchange program between an organization in the U.S. and one in a foreign state.

P-3 Artist or Entertainer in a Culturally Unique Program: Individuals in the U.S. as artists and entertainers operating individually or as a group, who are recognized for excellence in developing, interpreting, representing, coaching or teaching a unique or traditional ethnic, folk, cultural, musical, theatrical or artistic performance or presentation.
