Supply chain restraints: Impact on desktop and laptop purchases

January 26, 2022

The supply chain issues plaguing multiple industries continue to impact desktop and laptop purchases. Procurement and ITS have been working closely with our value-added reseller (VAR) Connection and Lenovo to ensure we have adequate stock of standard hardware configurations available. In some cases, we have run out of stock and are awaiting delivery of orders we placed in July. To bridge the gap, we have identified alternative Lenovo laptops that meet our required specifications and are priced competitively. These will be listed on the Connection Punch-Out via Sciquest within the next few days. If these machines do not meet your requirements, often our VAR is able to find suitable hardware for members of the Yale Community. Please reach out to Deirdre O’Rourke with questions about available hardware.

Apple hardware has also been constrained. Most Apple hardware is purchased directly from Apple, so we have less visibility into their supply chain issues. However, we are aware that many orders of the new MacBook pro models ordered in October have been slated for delivery in February.

We will continue to work with our vendors to ensure the Yale Community receives desktops and laptops in timely fashion. Please visit the Technology Purchases with an Authorized Reseller page on It’s Your Yale for additional details.
